Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffFebruary 29, 2024Although this screen-capture utility demonstrates pleasing performance, we must voice a few complaints about its interface and trial restriction. Like many programs, the unregistered version forces you to deal with a nag screen before you can use it. WinCam 2000 Special Edition's nag screen lasts for a full 30 seconds, one of the longest we've seen. You can skip it by hitting the Enter code button; an error message will pop up, but the program opens. The application walks you through the setup process by allowing you to choose which areas of the screen you want to capture and whether you want to record background music or narration. You also can add audio later. This program's recorder, player, and editor could be better integrated, but you can access most functions from the editing panel. Though the main window is initially confusing, the editing tool lets you play your clips, save them into one of three formats, and perform various tweaks and annotations. The application now will let you draw onscreen while you're recording, useful if you're making demonstration videos. WinCam 2000 Special Edition's speed, accuracy, and feature set make it a good pick for users willing to deal with its quirks.
